I just finished the book by Douglas Feith, entitled "War and
Decision".
It details the inside story of what was occurring within the
administration in the years that Feith was undersecretary of
defense, 2001-2005. He talks about 911, Afghanistan and Iraq. This
is a very good book, backed up by actual government documents.
He also takes on, effectively IMO, some of the common criticisms of
the Bush administration wrt Iraq.
Sneak Preview: 2 people that don't get portrayed all that well are
Colin Powell and Paul Bremer. He tries to be even-handed with these
2 guys. But Feith had huge issues with them. He also is not all
that complimentary of the CIA.
Feith also does a good job, IMO, of dismantling the common arguments
about how we were lied into war, and that the only thing that
mattered were stockpiles.
Good book if you want an account from an insider.
