remember that Bush receives intel before the press finds out and
reports it. Its not like he found out about the invasion at the same
time we did while watching CNN. Thus, I'm sure he first heard about
the invasion at least a day before the rest of us did, or at least
knew they were about to invade at least a day before thanks to intel
briefing. Either way, did you honestly expect GWB to cut his olympic
visit short because Russia invaded its own territory? He met with him
in person already, and there wasn't much he could do about it anyway,
yet you wanted him to scurry back to Washington and not carry forth
with his olympic plans.
Like I said, GWB is dammed if he does, dammed if he doesn't. If he
would have let Russia essentially dictate his own schedule to him
during an important time (i.e. by hurrying back to the U.S. due to the
invasion), you and all the liberals would be ripping him for doing so.
You would have called him weak and stupid for abandoning the olympics
for a matter he couldn't do anything about anyway. The Daily Kos and
other weirdo sites would have had headlines like, "Dubya uses Russia
invasion as excuse to leave China early, the same olympics he
considered boycotting previously." Or, "instead of finishing his
goodwill mission during an important world event, GWB showed his
weakness by panicking and running home to Cheney."
